The projects are inclusive there are no boundries in the types of women that we work with including many agencies that support women's groups and networks.

A Celebration of the life of Bridget Malone

This is a dedication to the Artist Bridget Malone, who recently left  this earth to fly around the universe and continue to work on making mischief and magic!

Bridget and I graduated from Exeter School of Art 2002 in Fine Art/ Contextetual Practice, which meant we got our degree for being creative and having ideas ( we had many !)

At art college we collaborated together and became art activists and created a series of Tea Parties, we would sit for hours and discuss ideas of how we would change the world and make a more colourful place.
MAKE TEA NOT WAR says the post card and - BIG LOVE is written on a tea cloth from Bridget on my  kitchen wall.
We believed in Peace and Love as our foundation for everything and in creating senseless acts of beauty and practicing kindness and giving.
Anne Frank once said:

‘Give whatever you have to give, you can always give something even if its a Simple act of kindness, people who give will never be poor’.

Bridget gave us so much.
Through her  Art Bridget paid homage to ‘The workers’.
She made art which saluted the Honiton Lace makers, who often lost their sight to make lace for the rich, and to the cleaning women of Poltimore House.
Bridgee was passionate about her role as the Artist/Decorator, decorating parties with her rags was a big part of her life –making mini utopias, beautiful spaces,  a woman who bought people together, creating happenings, and magic all around.
She was a kind, loving, sweet, magical, inspirational, creative and passionate person, who sprinkled our lives with joy and happiness.
A free spirit, one of a kind, A beautiful soul, we were blessed to have shared some of our life with Bridgee, our memories of her will never fade.

You are all always around us Bridget forever in our hearts.
Thank you for everything you gave us.
Now Rest in peace my love

Nicci Wonnacott

Messages from Devon- Update

Messages from Devon
Here is a detail from one of the Flags created for Messages from Devon.
A sewn Devon Landscape, work in progress

The International Women's Arts Program is working in partnership with The Double Elephant Print Workshop to create a new piece of work commissioned by The Devon Records Office. The Project Title is Message form Devon. We are creating a series of flags with printed drawings from Devon overlaid with sewn or painted messages about what it is that makes Devon such a great place to live.
We ran a fab workshop at the International Woman's Day event at the Exeter Phoenix, worked with a youth group in Newton St Cyres who created some great work, WEA learners and Rejuvenation have all really enjoyed being a part of the project.
We are also very pleased to be a part of The Devon Grapevine Meet and Greet Day at St Sidwells on April 30th.
Some of the work will be exhibited here.

The flags will be exhibited as a part of the Exeter Respect festival in June and at the Devon Records Office as well as a touring exhibition throughout the summer. They will then be archived with the Devon Records Office to become a historical record of live in Devon Today.
We are also archiving what it is about Devon you want to say to add to this exciting and interesting research. The work will come from visual and narrative messages.
If you would like to be a part of it tell us your 'Message from Devon'

International Womens Day 2011-Events Report

The following events were held this year and were a great success.
International Women's Arts raised £260 for SAFE and ADVA.
A big thank you to all who came along and to those who put in a huge amount of effort to mark International Women's Day 2011. One hundred years of IWD.
We had a great time connecting with over 300 people to promote the day.

What came up throughout the day was that this year there were many more International Day events happening across the world. In the city Exeter and across Devon this was also apparent, many activists putting on a variey of celebrations across the region.
It was suggested in our IWA talks that we may somehow think about what the future holds and how we may again connect with many agencies and networks to hold an event on a large scale and come together to show a solidarity as activists for International Women's Day ideals next year.
IWAs are considering facilitating a discussion on this later on in this year.
